Carlos Moraes

Professor and choreographer from Rio Grande do Sul, Carlos Moraes, played a fundamental role in consolidating professional dance in Bahia, where he moved in 1971. Co-founder of the Balé Teatro Castro Alves (BTCA), Moraes left his mark on prestigious companies in Brazil and abroad, such as the Balé da Cidade de São Paulo and the Balé do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. He also worked as a choreographer for TV Excelsior (1963), Globo (1965) and Tupi (1970); the Vivabahia group (1971) and Ballet Cisne Negro (1986).
His work encompassed diverse artistic forms, from classical ballet to modern dance, Afro dance, and folkloric expressions, including capoeira. Carlos Moraes left a remarkable legacy that transcends borders, enriching the Brazilian and international artistic landscape.
