Synopsis
Fruit of the Earth was created by Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili, one of the most renowned choreographers of today, who has his own company based in the Netherlands. The work poetically and simply depicts life in the countryside, communication, and the relationships between groups of workers who, even amidst tensions and conflicts, live in a magical harmony. With music by Mercedes Sosa, Fruit of the Earth has a great visual impact and innovative stage resources, with treatment by visual artist Ascon Nijs.

Itzik Galili

Born in Tel Aviv, he began his career as a dancer in the Bat Dor Company, later joining the Batsheva Dance Company. He made his choreographic debut with "Doublé Time" in 1990. An outstanding choreographer, he has worked with an impressive range of dancers and companies all over the world. In the Netherlands, where he has been based since 1991, he has created works for Scapino Rotterdam, Het Nationale Ballet, Nederlands Dance Theater II and Reflex, internationally he has created for Gulbekian Ballet Portugal, Lês Grands Ballets Canadiens, Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Geneve, Batsheva Dance Company, among others. His second work, "The Old Cartoon" (1990) received the originality award at the International Festival of Gvanim (Israel). In 1992 Galili won the audience prize at the International Choreographer's Competition in Groningen with "The Butterfly Effect". In 1994 he received the Philip Morris award for his contribution to Dutch culture. In 1996 Galili worked with composer Gene Carl, creating a complete work called "Chronocratie" (1996) and "Below Paradise" (1997) for Scapino Rotterdam. In September 1997, Galili was appointed by the Dutch Ministry of Culture director of the North Netherlands Dance Foundation based in Groningen. The Galili Dance Company presented its first full-length work "The Familiar Stranger" on September 15 of that year in the Stadsschouwburg Groningen. In 1999 she choreographed for the CISNE NEGRO CIA. DE DANÇA the piece "Fruto da Terra", with music by Mercedez Sosa, a success of public and critics all over Brazil and abroad.
