Synopsis
Mrs. Margareth, with excerpts from “Monger”, is an adaptation by Barak Marshall for the Cisne Negro Dance Company. “Monger” is a dance-theatre work for 10 dancers and tells the story of a group of servants trapped in the basement of an abusive mistress's house. In this work, Marshall's movement is physical, sharp, fast, with contemporary ethnic arguments, highly emotional, visual and theatrical. In the musical score of the work Monger, Barak combines elements of gypsy and southeastern European music, passing through classical music and rock. Monger explores the dynamics of power, hierarchy, free will and the compromises that are necessary to survive. The structure of the narrative piece is drawn from various sources, including the life and work of Bruno Schultz and Jean Genet's “The Maids”. Barak Marshall
