The Nutcracker 35 years
07/12/2018
Cisne Negro Cia de Dança presents the 35th season of The Nutcracker at Teatro Alfa,
traditional Christmas dance show, with wonderful music by Tchaikovsky!
About the Show
Keeping up with the traditional ballet The Nutcracker, it will be shown at Teatro Alfa, in its 35th edition, from December 13 to 23.
Cisne Negro Cia de Dança is ready to perform again the Christmas show The Nutcracker, created by Tchaikovsky in 1891. The play opens on December 13, Thursday, at Teatro Alfa, with sessions until December 23, and matinees on Saturdays and Sundays. Besides the company's official cast, there are also soloists who are first dancers in the companies they are a part of. Traditional in the city, the show received in 2012 the State Governor's Award as Best Dance Show - popular preference.
The Nutcracker is staged in two acts, the ballet tells the fantasy of Clara, a girl who gets many presents on Christmas Eve, but is especially charmed by one of them, a Nutcracker doll. When everyone goes to bed, Clara goes into the living room to play with her new present, falls asleep and enters the world of fantasy. The toys come to life, dance, fight, and travel to The Kingdom of Snows and The Kingdom of Sweets, where Clara and her prince are honored with dances typical of several countries and a graceful pas-de-de-deux by the Sugar Fairy.
The creation of the show was inspired by a French adaptation of an excerpt from Hoffmann's tale Nussknacker und Mauserkonig (Nutcracker and the King of the Mice). Tchaikovsky was enchanted by the sinister and fantastic colorings surrounding the story and composed the music for the ballet. The result is a work full of fantasy and romanticism.
The work produced by Cisne Negro was first performed in 1983 under the direction of Hulda Bittencourt, receiving that year the Associação Paulista dos Críticos de Arte (APCA) award for Best Dance Spectacle. Since then, it has been incorporated into the repertoire of Cisne Negro Cia de Dança until today. One of the group's trademarks is to renew the show every year, lending it a touch of originality and innovation without losing its essence. The diversity can be seen both in the choreography and in the scenic setting.
In the foyer of the Theater, there will be a presentation of guest choirs, performing Christmas music, one hour before the beginning of the shows.
